Domestic Homicide Review (DHR) Learning Events 

A series of DHR learning events were delivered and the recordings are able to be viewed here. Over the 4 events a total of 692 multiagency professionals attended.  

The subject matter included gypsy, Roma, Traveller victims, black and minoritised victims, male victims and domestic abuse related suicides. 

DHR Learning Event- Gypsy, Roma, Traveller victims- June 2022 

The event covered:

  • Debrief from “Never Going to Beat You” film 
  • Good practice regarding domestic abuse and the GRT community 
  • Familiarisation with the recent Traveller Movement Guide 
  • Understanding the experiences of GRT victims of domestic abuse, considerations and barriers 
  • Points of improvement for professionals engaging with GRT victims 
  • The GRT community in Buckinghamshire 

DHR Learning Event- Male victims- January 2022 

The event covered:  

  • Learning points from DHRs where the victim is male (practice experience and conducted research)  
  • Insights of the experiences of male victims who are heterosexual, gay, bisexual and transgender  
  • Coercive control and male victims  
  • The barriers male victims face when reporting domestic abuse  
  • Approaches on how best to support male victims  
  • The services which are available for male victims (including local services  

DA and Black, Asian & Ethnically Diverse Victims- June 2021 

 The event will cover:  

  • What intersectionality is and incorporating this approach into DHRs  
  • The impact and experiences on family members (“honour” based violence)  
  • What immigration abuse is and the forms it takes  
  • Key issues for migrant women e.g., no recourse to public funds (NRPF)  
  • Learning points from DHRs and best practice for professionals  
  • How to best reach those with BAED backgrounds  
  • Understanding the concept of “cultural competence”  

DHR Learning Event-Domestic abuse & Suicide- December 2020 

The event covered:  

  • Reviewing domestic abuse related suicides 
  • A survivors story 
  • Explorative studies
